Hobbies
My history as a language teacher has been a journey of changing interests and surprising twists and turns. I have lived in three different countries and travel with my wife regularly, particularly around east Asia. Besides learning and thinking about language and linguistics, I spend a lot of my time working with my welsh corgi, Charmsky (named in part, after the famous linguist Noam Chomsky). He is a very good boy, who loves to play fetch with his frisbee. We also have a little Russian Blue cat who is very sweet and gets along great with our dog. Finally, I love games. Both video and tabletop. I was so excited to learn, while studying for my Master's, about language learning theories and methods that take seriously the real potential of games in learning, and not just as a way to make learning "fun". While I don't have as much time anymore, I love any opportunity to play or use games in teaching.
